This basic definition is "A calling”. God's personal, individual invitation to carry out the unique task he has for you." Your calling can be profoundly and durably sure in your own heart. It is the work of God to bring our heart to a point of conviction that, all things considered-including Scripture-this path is the path of obedience. The conviction is not infallible. But when it is of God, it brings peace.
While it's true some people seem to find their life purpose easier than others, it's also true that God really does have a plan for every single person, even if it takes a while to see what it is.
That sounds simple enough. But how do you know when God is calling you or His life purpose for you, and is there any way you can be sure you're doing the task he has assigned you?
I want to be clear that I do believe God has gifted each of us in specific ways. His purpose in doing this is to place each of us in a specific role in the body of Christ. Every one of us has a role to play in His story and this role should be everything to us!
When I was about nine years old, I was playing outside when I saw a woman put a sign on one of our neighbor’s door. The lady said that she was a nurse and had quarantined the family inside because they had smallpox. At that time, the lady told me that I could not go into their house and they could not come out because I could get sick.
When asked, the lady said she was a nurse. My immediate response was, " i want to be a nurse when I grow up". She said, "That is nice". As I grew I continued to say that I wanted to be a nurse.
The next year I asked my step-mother what are missionaries. You see, she had missionary meetings weekly at our house. She explained what missionaries are and I said, "I want to be a missionary when I grow up".
So I grew up wanting to be a nurse-missionary. Because I did not know how God calls people or that the desires He put in my heart was from Him, I thought it was my desire to do these things. Throughout high school I would say, "I am going to be a nurse and a missionary".
After High School I went to work in a hospital as a Nursing Assistant and worked my way through to become a Registered Nurse. Many times I said I was going on a Mission's Trip and did not go. One day God reminded me that I was to be a missionary. To my surprise I realized that it was God who had put it in my heart to be a nurse and a missionary and not just my own desires.
Sometimes God lets us know from childhood what He is calling us to be. What about you? Did He let you know as a child? Maybe it came through your parents, your schoolteacher, your Sunday Schoolteacher or friends. If not, you can still discover your life's purpose.
Have you ever doubted yourself about your life purpose? Or do you wonder if there is something more you can do or should be doing? Such feelings are common. In fact, you may not be sure on how to handle these feelings.
To know your life’s purpose you need to ask God. In Jeremiah 29:11 He says that He knows the plans He has for you. Your purpose is a part of God's master plan for salvation for the entire world. It is His intention for all people to repent and come to Him and receive salvation. This is true for Jews and Gentiles (The nations).
Those of us who have received salvation, Messianic Jews, and Christians, are to work together as a light unto the world so people can see Yeshua/Christ through us. God always want us to help others in some way. It is not only in the church but also in the home, school, workplace, and the community.
Let's take the “confusion” out of identifying your life's purpose so you can get your job, career, hobby, community volunteer work or ministry on track.
About Purpose
God created you in His image and gave you your purpose.
Jeremiah 1:5 (NIV) "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."
Understanding and knowing your life purpose as well as incorporating it in all the things that you do is the key to all. This will provide you a meaningful compass in which you gain direction and guide in your life. If you are looking to transition into a new path of your life, knowing your purpose in life can help you.
Finding your God given life purpose may not be easy. But you need to know that, life leaves clues, which will lead you to whatever purpose you have in life.
Daily activities or your hobbies, can serve as the clues to your life purpose.
Being versus Doing
God wants us to live out His character in our jobs as nurses, doctors, scientist, technology, educators and other professions. 1. Corinthians 14:1a Let love be your highest goal! (NLT)
This godly character. Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
No matter what you do with your life, whether you are doing your job, running your business, studying for a career, daily activities or your hobbies, they can serve as the clues for you to find your life purpose.
When we accept Jesus He begins to lay out the plan for our life. Do not let the enemy have you develop a plan or dream for yourself without knowing if this is what Jesus wants. Even if Jesus does not speak to you in an audible voice, He can tell you His plans through the circumstances in your life. Submit your will to God’s plan.
It is important to start any journey in prayer. After all, your prayers are a two-way conversation — your talk to God and He talks to you.
So, how do you know what to ask God and the type of answer to expect? Pray, Lord I know you have a plan for my life. There is no reason to fear, nor have a fear-based relationship with God. A love and grace based prayers is what you are striving for.
Purposeful Purpose
Learning your life’s purpose is a fantastic way to build your business, career, and make job decisions, decide your college major or find your ideal career.
You may have a genuine passion for helping people - and you think that is where God is calling you. But something just is not clicking. What does He want you to do and which career or business do He want you to use this skill? You know you should be doing something to help yourself with your career, but you are not exactly sure what that something is.
What catastrophic event in your life that caused you to step up to your call? Someone was murdered, a great storm like a tornado or a hurricane, a house fire, a pandemic or a financial collapse. Maybe a friend contemplated suicide and you helped give them hope.
What have you been clear to from a child. Have you always loved caring for the homeless, giving people gifts when they are sad or helping neighbors with their lawns?
